Discussion 3-1: Deviant Subcultures

There are several theoretical types of subcultures:

• Define one type of deviant subculture, and provide a modern example.

• Describe an incident in which others, with greater social power, defined someone as deviant. Did this incident involve race, class, or gender in any ways? How did this incident illustrate the importance of power in the process of defining what is and is not deviant?

Explain, and make reference to specific themes and examples from the reading using appropriate APA citations.
