Hands-On Steps

1. From your computer workstation, create a new text document called DoD Lab #2.

2. Consider the following scenario:

You work for a governmental unit of DoD and your manager has asked you to write a brief paper

outlining the importance of having the proper DoD-approved frameworks in place when an organization

wants to conduct business with a governmental unit. Your task is to evaluate all the available

DoD, IASE, and NIST hardening guides on the Internet and to write a brief analysis of the technical

controls and hardening guides that should be implemented as a minimum guideline for divisions of

government agencies such as yours.

3. Launch your Web browser. In the address box, type the Web address: http://www.defense.gov/

RegisteredSites/RegisteredSites.aspx. Review the DoD list of registered websites and review the content

of some of the information assurance sites. In your text document, list three of the DoD-registered

websites that provide guidelines and documents related to information assurance.

4. Change the Web address to http://www.disa.mil/. Review the Defense Information Systems Agency

(DISA) website, focusing on the agency’s services and capabilities. Evaluate which services and

capabilities are relevant to the task of formulating a framework for secure government operations.

Next, type the Web address http://iase.disa.mil/index2.html into the address bar, and review DISA’s

Information Assurance Support Environment.

5. Click the link for Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGS) in the left-hand column on the page.

Review the STIGs available, focusing on the following topics:

a. Network Hardening Guides

b. Secure Remote Computing

c. Windows Operating Systems

d. Application Security

6. In your text document, write an executive summary that identifies two common auditing frameworks

used for DoD. Discuss these and be sure to include a discussion of the hardening guidelines and

security checklists used by DoD.

7. Submit the text document to your instructor as a deliverable for this lab.

Visit Geert Hofstede Cultural Dimensions

Step Two:

Create a country comparison using the United States in first dropdown menu box to see the values for the six cultural dimensions. After selecting the United States, a second and a third country can be chosen in the second dropdown menu box. Keep the United States in the first box and then repeat for each country (Mexico, China, United Arab Emirates, and Israel) involved in the fast food expansion project to see a comparison of their scores.

Step Three:

Create a bar graph or table to highlight how the four countries compare to the United States by using the value scores under the comparison to create the bar chart.  How to make a graph on Microsoft Word:

  1. Click “Insert” tab
  2. Click “Chart” in the Illustrations Group
  3. Select “Bar”
  4. Click “OK” to insert a chart and a spreadsheet will open alongside your Word document. The spreadsheet contains sample figures surrounded by a blue border. Column “A” contains data labels. The remaining columns contain data.

HOMEWORK 2

Using the data provided in the S. A. Harrington Company case on pages 230—231 of your textbook, prepare a reconciliation schedule to reconcile 2015 net income and stockholder’s equity from U.S. GAAP to IFRS. Specifically, create a file (either Word or Excel) that addresses the following:

  • Convert the restructuring figures from U.S. GAAP to IFRS and discuss the impact that a switch to IFRS would have on its financial statement.
  • Convert the pension plan figures from U.S. GAAP to IFRS and discuss the impact that a switch to IFRS would have on its financial statement.
  • Convert the stock options figures from U.S. GAAP to IFRS and discuss the impact that a switch to IFRS would have on its financial statement.
  • Convert the revenue recognition figures from U.S. GAAP to IFRS and discuss the impact that a switch to IFRS would have on its financial statement.
  • Convert the bonds payable figures from U.S. GAAP to IFRS and discuss the impact that a switch to IFRS would have on its financial statement.
  • Finally, present your findings in a clear and understandable fashion.

homework 2

Contemporary theatre, both commercial and non-commercial, has seen a huge increase in diversity — diversity among playwrights and their plays, actors, directors, designers and theatre practitioners.  Diverse artists have always shown themselves to be an integral part of theatre and theatre history, but, now in contemporary theatre, they are sometimes referred to “artists of a diverse background” instead of just theatre artists.

These artists come from a selection of groups, cultures and categories including, but not limited by:

  • Gender Specific
  • Native American
  • Hispanic
  • African-American
  • Asian-American
  • Gay and Lesbian

This assignment requires you to…

  • select one person (playwright, actor, designer, etc.) from the groups listed above
  • explore, prepare and discuss his or her historical, social and cultural importance to what we call “diverse contemporary theatre” today

Normal guidelines for written assignments should be followed — this assignment should be typed and proofread (3-4 pages in length).  Think originality and creativity – images, graphics, video links, etc. are always encouraged to help tell describe your comparison.  Some additional research may be needed (remember to document your sources in a bibliography).  Early submissions are always accepted.  Please be aware of spelling, punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc.  This assignment will be graded according to the Written Assignment 3 Rubric.  Any format (Word, PDF, Powerpoint, audio/video) will be accepted, as long as it can be opened.

Assignment 2: Errors in Reasoning

In this assignment, you will select one of the claims listed below. Using what you know about the topic, describe at least four claims that might commonly be made that display some of the errors in reasoning covered in this module’s readings. You may have to do a bit of research to find popular positions on these topics.

For example, if the claim is: Children should not be allowed to play violent video games.

Then four common claims about the subject might be:

1. Children have always played violent games and they turned out okay.

2. Dr. Dre says that violent video games are okay.

3. Everybody knows that violent video games don’t cause problems.

4. Many countries banned violent video games and they have higher crime rates than we do.

And the errors they represent might be:

1. Children have always played violent games and they turned out okay (appeal to tradition and false analogy).

2. Dr. Dre says that violent video games are okay (argument by mistaken authority).

3. Everybody knows that violent video games don’t cause problems (appeal to common belief).

4. Many countries banned violent video games and they have higher crime rates than we do (post hoc ergo propter hoc).

Because

1. Any sentence that talks about how we have always done something as a way to justify doing it is an appeal to tradition.

2. The claim looks like it comes from an authority, but Dr. Dre is a musician, not a doctor.

3. Any claim that says that everyone knows something as a way to justify doing it is an appeal to common belief.

4. Showing that two things happened (that video games are accepted and crime is up) does not prove that the two things are related or that the first caused the second; this is called post hoc ergo propter hoc, which means after this, so because of this.

Select one of these topics. Using what you know about the topic and additional research you conduct, describe at least four claims that might commonly be made that display some of the errors in reasoning covered in this module’s readings.

1. Should people under 18 be subjected to legal curfews or restricted driving privileges?

2. Should libraries be required to install filtering software or otherwise censor the materials that they provide?

3. Should insurance companies be required to pay for breast reconstruction, birth control pills, or Viagra?

4. Should the use of camera phones be banned in gymnasiums or other locations?

Write your 600-word response in the Microsoft Word document format. Name the file M2_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.doc, and submit it to the M2: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Wednesday, July 27, 2016

Assignment 2: Pavlov’s Dog: An Example of Classical Conditioning

Classical conditioning is an important theory of learning within the behavioral perspective of learning that you explored in Module 1. The key to classical conditioning is that we learn through association, which is quite different from operant conditioning in which we learn through consequence.

When Ivan Pavlov was studying the process of salivation in dogs, he made an accidental, but really important discovery—classical conditioning. He discovered that after pairing the appearance of the researcher with the delivery of food a number of times, the dogs began to salivate as soon as the researcher walked into the room even when he or she was not carrying any food.

Here is a list of the steps of the classically conditioned learning process:

Stimulus / Response

Event

Outcome

Neutral stimulus (NS)

The researcher enters the room—prior to the dog learning that the researcher is associated with food.

There is no response.

Unconditioned stimulus (UCS)

Food—the dog naturally responds to the food.

No learning needed.

Unconditioned response (UCR)

The dog salivates because of the food.

The dog did not need to be taught to salivate.

Conditioned stimulus (CS)

The researcher enters the room.

Now, after being paired with the food, the appearance of the researcher has become a learned stimulus.

Conditioned response (CR)

Salivation now occurs because of the researcher.

The dog has now learned to salivate in response to the mere presence of the researcher.

Here is another example of the steps of the classical conditioning process:

You have moved into a new apartment building. The first time you take a shower happens to correspond with the time when someone flushes the toilet. As a result of this flushing, the water in the shower becomes very hot. Now, because of this experience, each time you hear the toilet flush, you jump out of the shower before the temperature of the water changes.

  • NS: Sound of the flushing of the toilet
  • UCS: Hot water
  • UCR: Jumping out of the shower because of the hot water
  • CS: Sound of the flushing of the toilet
  • CR: Jumping out of the shower because of the sound of the flushing toilet

Now, complete the following:

Part 1

Think of a classically conditioned response you have experienced and describe the process of learning this response (what was the process you went through in becoming classically conditioned in this response). Be sure to identify the following:

  • Neutral stimulus (NS)
  • Unconditional stimulus (UCS)
  • Unconditional response (UCR)
  • Conditioned stimulus (CS)
  • Conditioned response (CR)

Part 2

Address the following questions:

  • Describe a practical application that demonstrates this classically conditioned association from your own life. What function does this classically conditioned association serve?
  • Explain what would happen if you no longer responded to this conditioned stimulus.
  • Describe the manner in which generalization works to maintain classical conditioning.
  • Identify the stimulus that has been generalized or could be generalized in your classically conditioned response.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to also include a title page and a reference page. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M2_A2.doc.

By Wednesday, June 22, 2016, deliver your assignment to the M2: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

There are several theories that explain why juveniles become delinquent. Some of the sociological theories include anomie, social disorganization, drift theory, and differential association theory. Locate a sociological theory (it does not have to be one of the theories listed previously), and explain that theory with its relation to juvenile delinquency. Please note that sociological theories relate to society and external influences over a juvenile, not psychological influences (which relate to internalization within a person) or biological influences (which concern physical problems).

You are a sociologist, and you are noticing that the juveniles in your area are starting to cause legal problems and are beginning to overload the juvenile court system.

  • Once you decide on the theory, describe how it relates to juveniles by explaining what the theory believes causes the juvenile problems.
  • Explain what you could do in your position to aid in alleviating these problems.

Assignment 2 Grading Criteria
